Ten Americans besieged by Annamite riots had to send a roundabout radio message 3400 miles to get help from a' British force only five miles away, reports the Associated Press correspondent. The siege began when an Annamite squadron ambushed an American jeep and killed a senior officer His deputy tried to persuade the Annamites that America was neutral, but the rioters turned a machine-gun on him and forced him to flee to the American Mission where he organised a garrison of 10 men and tried unsuccessfully to telephone the British. Eventual! v he made contact with Seac headquarters at Kandy by radio and Seac within a few minutes flashed orders to Saigon after which Gurkhas arrived on the scene.
