Mr H. R. Farq'uhar, of Palmerston North, has been appointed consulting engineer to the Rangitikei Catchment Board till March 31 next and was welcomed at the monthly meeting of the board yesterday. . • Arrangements are being made for General George Carpenter, supreme leader of the International Salvation Army, together with his wife, to tour New Zealand next January. General Carpenter will conduct special meetings and preside at conferences throughout the Dominion.
Mr H. E. Card, who died at his residence, Station Hotel, Wanganui, on Tuesday, was educated at St. Patrick's College, Wellington. He went into the building; trade and devoted his spare time to sport, particularly Rugby football, and officiated as referee in many matches. He became prominent in racing circles, owning a number of horses, among them The Banker, winner of the New Zealand and Canterbury Cups and other important races. After retiring from building Mr Card took up hotelkeeping, holding licenses in Petone, Featherston. Hawera and Wanganui.
