DESIRES OF R.S.A
The acquiring of a sports centre with a memorial pavilion was further discussed at a meeting of the Palmerston North R.S.A. executive this week. A sub-committee consisting of Messrs L. P. Robert, E. D. Fuller and R. A. Check (all representative of World War II) was set up to discuss with the Mayor (Mr Mansford) or the City Council the possibility of the R.S.A. being granted administrative control, similar to other organisations in the city, over one of the council’s partly developed reserves, and to ascertain to what extent the council would be willing to assist financially or otherwise.. Arising out of a recommendation made at the adjourned annual meeting of the branch that the Soldi.crs’ Club should seek a charter, the executive set up a sub-com-mittee consisting cf Messrs S. M. Thomson, M. Laurcnson and E. I). Fuller to approach the Manawatu Patriotic Society with a view to scekingeabrogation of the present condition of occupancy of the club premises that no liquor should bo consumed there. Advice was received from the Palmerston North branch of the Carpenters’ and Joiners’ Association that at tho annual meeting appreciation was expressed of the R.S.A.’s efforts on behalf of returned men, and conveying the association’s thanks for tho work 'done in this direction.
