VERSATILE NAVAL PLANE

(Rec 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 26. The latest British plane oft the secret list is the Blackburn Firebrand, a combined fighter, torpedo-carrier, and dive-bomber. It will shortly ho in service with the Fleet. The Firebrand is the only single-seater torpedo-carrying plane in the world and is probably the most versatile attack plane in the Royal Navy. It is armed with lour cannon and is equipped for carrying bombs and rockets as alternatives to a torpedo. , , , The Firebrand, although one of the largest and heaviest single-seater aircraft in service, is highly manoeuvrable, even when carrying a torpedo. It can readily take off and land on the deck of an aircraft carrier. Its wingspan is 51ft 3in. and overall length 39ft lm.
