EXTRACT’S FROM “STANDARD.” SEPTEMBER 4, 1915. The German claims of having captured Lingekopf and Barrenkopf had been denied in Paris. It was stated that the enemy had captured a few trenches on a front of 200 metres. •* Germany was selling many foreign securities on the Genova and Amsterdam Bourse. She had embarrassed the first named. Poor support had been received for a war loan in the country. According to a Washington message peace proposals, believed to be from Germany, had been placed bpfore President Wilson. The Pope was reported to be endeavouring to persuade America to intervene and stop the war.
