ASHHURST-POHANGINA CLUB
There was a small attendance at the annual meeting of the Ashhurst-Pohangina Racing Club. The president (Mr R. MacDonald), in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, staled that the club, had been fortunate in securing, in conjunction with the Marton Jockey Club, one of the extra permits issued during last season. The weather for this meeting at Marton was very wet and spoilt the prospect of a most successful fixture, but under the circumstances the totalisator turnover of , £30,701 was quite satisfactory and enabled the clubs to show a small profit. Under the wartime arrangement the club had also been associated with Marton at its New Year fixture, the club receiving a straight-out payment for its interest. The sum of £I4OO had been invested in war loans during the year and the club’s total investments were now £3618. A donation of £4O had also been rpade t-o the patriotic funds. After providing for depreciation and taxation the net profit for the year was £lls. Regret was expressed at the death of Messrs A. W. Akers, H. Burt, E. W. Collins, S. W. Evans, and J. Selwyn, all valued members of the club, and also of two former stewards, Messrs H. Dixon and James Symonds. Since the club had been unable to race on its own course members’ subscriptions had been waived, and it was docided to remit the subscriptions for the coming year also. It was stated that the c-lub would again be associated with the Marton Jockey Club at the New Year. All the retiring officers were re-elected unopposed.
