NATIONAL PARTY
TYPIFIES BRITISH LION. STANDS EODR SQUARE. (Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 3 “It is somewhat amusing to read tho Prime Minister’s statement about the Tory wolf having donned Labour’s clothes and lying in the Labour bed,” said the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland) today. “For a long time they used to allege that we had no policy at all save that we would cut wages and pensions. As no one believed that charge Mr Fraser and his friends now allege that we have stolen their policy, have donned their clothes, and are lying in Labour’s bed. “That statement in Christchurch will deceive but very few. Fortunately, the radio enables the people of New Zealand to hear the very strong case the Parliamentary Opposition consistently puts forward in defence of the personal rights cf tho individual and its advocacy of higher living standards by increasing the supply of goods from which all the people must draw their supplies. “Far from being a wolf lying down, the National Party today typifies the spirit of the British lion standing four-square in the path of the growing dictatorship in New Zealand. It is true that there are differences between the two parties. The Labour, Party appears to believe conscientiously in State control here, there, and everywhere so as to hasten the day of the socialisation of the means of production, distribution, and exchange. Hence all these restrictions and regulations and all this loss of personal freedom for the people. NAMES DON’T COUNT.
“The National Party is equally' conscientious in its belief that the people are heartily tired of rising costs, regimentation, restrictions, shortages, licenses, permits, and filling in forms, and that a steadily- growing number of people are looking for a change. It is the party that will allow the people to have the freedom our servicemen and women have fought for, the party- that will reduce living costs hv lowering taxation, and will restore to the people their right to live their own lives without dictation from the State. “Mr Fraser can call us Tories or what ho likes. We are out for the welfare of the people and when our t opponents have to resort to calling us names that is the surest indication that we are making progress- Mr Fraser is apparently still suffering from the effects of Awarua, Hamilton and Dunedin North.”
