PRINCESS ELIZABETH

RUMOUR OF ENGAGEMENT. LONDON, September 3. A message from Athens reports that the engagement of Princess Elizabeth, heir presumptive to the Throne, to Prince Philip of Greece is hinted at by the Monarchist newspaper Hellenicon Aema. Prince Philip, who is .at present A.D.C. to Admiral Lord Louis Mountbatten, is a son of the late Prince Andrew and Princess Alice, Lord Mountbatten’s sister. The newspaper says: “Archbishop Damaskinos while in London may attend the happy occasion which will intimately connect the British and Greek Royal Houses.” The Press Association says Buckingham Palace knows nothing about such rumours.

Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Alice of Greece, is a daughter of the late Princess Victoria, Marchioness of Milford Haven. Princess Victoria, tho eldest daughter of Princess Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse, was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, thus making Prince Philip a great-great-grandson of Queen Victoria. Princess Elizabeth is a great-great-granddaugh-ter. Lord Louis Mountbatten is a great-grandson.
