LABOUR COMMITTEE
At the Palmerston North Labour Representation Committee's monthly meeting a circular from headquarters concerning a national celebration for the tenth anniversary of the Labour Government was discussed. Appropriate recognition was agreed upon, but details are to be framed at a special meeting. Suggestions that Labour Party branches be established at Talraro and West End and an additional branch at Terrace End were discussed, but were held over pending a report from the women’s branch and the central branch of the party. It was agreed that a public address be given in Palmerston North every two months by a Labour M.P., and a list of speakers’ names was set down and they will be approached. It was announced that Mr F. Langstone, M.P., would give a public address at the Opera House this month and explain ‘‘the reason for the nation owning the Bank of New Zealand.” That the debating classes should again be started to compete for the Savage Banner was a suggestion favoured by the committee, but left in abeyance until consideration had been given to it by the branches.
