ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL
Played under the most adverse conditions experienced on North Street Park so far this season, an Association football match between Manawatu representatives and Wellington Trades Union on Saturday resulted in a. draw, 5-all. Heavy rain, wliic.li fell throughout the greater part of the game, precluded any attempi at scentifie play, but the passing and combination on both sides were good under the circumstances. Four goals were scored during the last five minutes. of the game, the Wellington team netting the ball thrice consecutively and Manawatu scoring the final goal just before the end of the match. The half-time score was 2-all. The visitors were superior in most departments and showed a better understanding of the game than the local side, which was fortunate in having a strong defence lino to hamper the short passing movements of its opponents on a- number of occasions. Brewer, Manawatu’s centre-forward, whose keen eye and steady kicking accounted for four of his team’s goals, played attractive football. Stewart, kicked Manawatu s other goal, while, for Wellington, tho scorers were Sergent (4) and Patterson. Mr 11. Lock was tho referee.
Wellington.—Chatham Cup final: Western (Christchurch) 4 v. Marist (Wellington) 3, after extra time.
