EARTHQUAKE DAMAGE

(P.A.j CHRTSTCHUR CH, Sept. 2. For the first time the Earthquake and War Damage Act, 1944, will be invoked for claims for damage sustained in the recent earthquake at Hanmer Springs, said the Minister of Finance (Mr Nash), yesterday. Mr Nash is' chairman of the Earthquake and War Damage Commission. A representative of the commission will arrive in the South Island tomorrow or Tuesday to receive. reports of claims and to investigate generally. A Press Association message from Invercargill states that a slight earthquake was felt at 10.50 o’clock yesterday morning.
