SPAIN’S “LITTLE GERMANY”
(Rec. 11.45 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 2. Numerous German industries including J.G. Farbenindustrio, continue to operate almost unhampered in Spain under the cloak of Spanish ownership and protected by the Spanish law, says Renter's Barcelona correspondent. The Allied authorities are studying the situation to ascertain whether it is possible to stamp out Spain’s “Little Germany.” These German subsidiaries' at present cannot bo touched. All are technically Spanish concerns, owned and controlled, in name at least, by Spaniards. All the Allies have been able to do so far is to black-list them and to refuse to supply them with raw materials. Britain lias black-listed more than 800 firms and individuals in Spain for trading with Germany or being German-con-trolled. German assets in Spain are estimated at about £60,000,000.
