TANGIMOANA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) As soon as the official news was received of the Japanese surrender the members of the School Committee assembled the children at the jMclvclvic Hall and entertained them with refreshments and a royal time they had for a couple of hours, in songs by the scholars, recitations, dancing, and games. In the evening the residents and' their children and visitors were again in festive mood; dancing, songs, recitations, and games for young and old, were the order of the programme, which ended about midnight witli supper provided by the residents. The peace celebrations were concluded on the Sunday evening with a thanksgiving service in the McKelvio Hall, when there w'as a good attendance o,t residents. 'J ho speaker was Mr J. Cox. The fortnightly church services which are being held at tlio hall are proving very popular and it. may not be long ere they will be held weekly. 'J lie fortnightly euchre parties prove very popular, the funds raised being donated to local school funds. Whitebait fishing is being indulged in and some good catches have oeen reported. All the accommodation here has been taken up. An enjoyable social Was held in McIvclvie Hall under the auspices of the Ladies' Patriotic Guild. Iho .hall was decorated with greenery and spring flowers by three bovs, Don Scott, Hex jidntuuds and Briden" Clarke. Community singing was accompanied by Mrs A. L>. Scott at Iho piano. There was a playetie by the school girls, Joan Williams, Lisa Grinstead and Shirley and June Larson. Another short play by Irene Spry, Lorna Clark and Barbara Clark was also much enjoyed. Airs M. Stuart sang a Scottish song and for an encore sang "Waltzing Matilda," when everyone joined in the chorus. Master It. Algar gave a piano nolo which was appreciated, and there were country dances and competitions. Mrs Tuck and Mrs (Joker won the waltzing contest, while the best dancers of the polka were Barbara and Lorna CJark. 'Hie bring and buy stall under the charge of Mrs Waldcgravo. and Mrs Spry did good business.
