I The University of New Zealand yesterday conferred the degree of Bachelor of Agricultural Science on Alan John Lynch, of Massey Agricultural College. Mr F. C. Heddleston, assistant ac- . countant at the Palmerston North branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been appointed accountant at the Wellington branch and will take up his new position shortly. The friends of Mr and Mrs E. J. Watson, of Heretounga Street, will be pleased to 'learn that their second son, Colin, who underwent an operation for appendicitis in a private hospital yesterday, is making good progress. The death occurred at Raetihi recently of Mr A. Johansson, aged 82, who was we'll known in. Wellington, the Wairarapa, Hawke's Bay and Wanganui. He occupied a prominent position in the North Island timber milling industry. Mr Jolianssen came to New Zealand with his Norwegian parents toward the close of the last century, his parents being among the founders of Dannevirke and Norsewood. Members of the Manawatu-Oroua River Board, yesterday, referred to the passing of Mr A. Seifert, who was serving on the board at the time of his death. The chairman (Mr J. Chrystall) spoke of Mr Seifert's orderly presentation of his views at the board table, and the hoard endorsed a motion carried at a previous meeting expressing sympathy witli Mrs Seifert and the family.
