UNITED GUILD
Tho United Guild held its monthly meeting, with Mrs L. Bale presiding. The meeting opened with a vote of sympathy to Mrs Hodder and family, also to the widow of Mr G. Revere. An acknowledgment of the first consignment of clothing for Unrra was received from the Lady Galway Guild, Wellington. The 'ladies of the guild staffed the A.N.A. in Broadway recently, and the committee thanked those who carried out the work so successfully.
In view o r altered circumstances it was decided that the jumble sale should not be held. During the past month work in the guild had been principally Dr TJnrrn. Ex tra assistance had been re t u ved in tho workroom and a steady it in uf parcels dealt with each day. This had enabled the guild to send 12 cases to Wellington of clothing of good qualify and in perfect order. Thanks were due to many mem bors for gift parcels and anonymous donors who helped to fulfil obligations to headquarters in such a gratifying manner. Arrangements for stalling the patriotic shop on September 24, 25 and 26 were well in hand and Mrs Johnston and Mrs Whilehead would act as convenors. The raffles vvero attractive and as this would be the guild’s last effort it was hoped to make it a good one.
A small peacetime force of the W.A.A.F. is to be retained in England. They' will be required to instruct recruits in radar and signalling. It will he decided whether tho A.T.S. shall form part of the permanent postwar army after tho conclusion of the war with Japan.
