RADAR FOR BLIND

(Rec. 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 19 The possibility of using radar to assist the blind will bo investigated by a research unit to be established by St Dunstan’s. The chairman of St. Dunstan’s (Sir lan Fraser), who conceived the idea some time ago. enlisted the aid of the scientist Professor J. j. Round, who is experienced in radar research. An anonymous donor made available funds guaranteeing the continuance of the work for iivo years. The Press Association understands that tlio new development has sound reflection as its basis and may enable the blind to, tell when passing buildings and to visualise their size and appearance. Success would mean the end of guide dogs and white sticks.
