MAGISTRATE’S COURT

Mr C. C. Alarsack, S.M., presided at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court today. Rangi Ilemepo, a Maori 'Woman, of Opiki, pleaded guilty to stealing two cheques and a wallet, of a total value of £2l 0s lOd, the property of \Yi Rogan, at Shannon on June 6. The police said the cheques had been found by a daughter of accused, who had cashed them and spout the money. The Magistrate admitted accused to probation for 12 months and ordered restitution to bo made. “This driver has been before the Court on three previous occasions for exceeding the speed limit, -and I think I should indicate the Court’s disapproval of the way he handles a car,” said the Magistrate, when A. Midwood was charged with driving without due care apd attention. Defendant was fined £lO. On a second charge of not having a warrant of fitness for the car he was driving, ho was fined 10s. It was stated by Senior-Sergeant R. Audley that the charges arose from a motor accident near Rangiolu. Lindsay Jack Parkin, butcher, of Mamaku, was remanded until August 29 on a charge that on May 16 he attempted to obtain £l9O fiom M. J. C. Laughton by falsely representing that a car was his own property. Bail was allowed, a personal recognisance of £IOO being stipulated. A Palmerston North resident, whose name was suppressed in tho meantime, was remanded until Friday next on a charge that he was (itemed to be a rogue and vagabond on August 19 in that he was found by night without lawful excuse in a washhouse at No. 19 Ward Street. Bail was allowed in a personal recognisance of £IOO and one surety of £IOO. A. C. Priest was fined 5s for driving a car without a warrant of fitness and £2 for driving an unlicensed car. Patricia Morgan was fined 10s for riding an unlighted cycle at night. R. Miles was fined £1 10s for failing to dip the headlights of his car, and B. P. Mitchell 15s on a similar charge. D. A. Vertongen was fined 10s for riding an unlighted cycle at night. Evelyn F. Whyte was fined 5s on an information of not having a warrant of fitness for a cai, and for having a number plate on tne car obscured she was fined ss. L. Sim was fined 5s for driving a car when not holding a driver’s license, and for driving a Cor that was not registered for the current term he was lined £1 10s.
