Since Rev. Father Broughton's dog was poisoned last week, otlier similar cases have been reported. Several instances of dogs disappearing have also been noted.
"A wave of .petty thieving appears to have covered the district, ' J said an irate motor-car owner today, when reporting that his private ration of petrol for the current month had been siphoned out of his car. A number of similar experiences have been reported. Mr John Graham, his friends will be pleased to know, has recovered from his indisposition. The Wanganui Education Board, at its monthly meeting, decided to make application to the Education Department for a grant to extend the lavatory accommodation at the Lytton Street School. A request for the use of the old school at Halcombe as headquarters of the proposed Girl Guide and Boy Scout groups was granted temporarily. 'Hie department, in a letter, agreed to a car service from Cemetery Road to Kimbolton, but not a bus service. The architect reported that the work in connection with the erection of the prefabricated building which was supplied by the department at the ,Lytton Street School was well under way and the contractor hoped to have the structure completed by the beginning of the new term. This evening the Fending Patriotic Society will sponsor a house-to-house call for donations towards Feilding's quota of this year's patriotic fund appeal/ 'the town is expected to raise just ■ under £3OOO and such good results have always followed the houso-to-housc canvass that the system is being employed again with the members of the local Returned Services Association co-operating. The association has always readily helped the -campaign for patriotic funds and has a large organisation ready to call on every home this evening be tween 6 and &.30 o'clock.
