JUMPERS AT AWAPUNI (By "Spectator.")
There was some excellent jumping at Awapuni yesterday, when a number of horses were given their final schooling prior to leaving for the north. A bout which attracted a good deal of interest was one in which Epping (Temperton), Taano Pangb (Fagan) and Minton (Midwocd) took parj\ They went once round over the country, starting at, the double brush. Mintoti and Epping were ahead of their companion throughout and, jumping brilliantly, finished over the sod wall together. Kpping appeared to be doing the • better, but his southern companion is a fine lepper. Red Sign (Carter) gave a very promising display over the big fences, especially for a novice.
Colonel Rougo (Beale) alone gave a great display when sent once round over the fences. Ho wasted no time over the job and no fault could be found with his fencing.
Young Charles (Tcmpcrton) and Sandy Cane (Midwood) jumped four hurdles well and finished together. ■ Royal Regret" (Ireland) and Greek Effort (Howard) went once round over the hurdles, but neither impressed watchers. Rink (S. Waddcll) and Dunbar (A. Waddell) galloped a mile. They went at a sound pace all the way and registered 1.53. the last three furlongs being run in 43sec.
Broiefield (Waddcll) , and Thcolateral (Broughton) came home from Iho sovon furlong barrier in 1.38 2-5. the last three in 43scc. They could have done better.
Foxiana (Borcham) and Renascor (Scllars) were sent a mile at a sound pace, finishing together. Both were sound when they pulled up and it was, a good workout.
Swift Jay and Gala Song galloped seven furlong?-! together and did it nicely. Speed King. Gipsy Lad and Foxbridgc Bay (who is back in ('. J. Thomson's team) ran three furlongri at- a solid pace.
The local horses will leave tomorrow for Hawera and the team is a strong one, although some of the junipers may need- a race. Tintern and Phalaria will not accompany C. J. Thomson's jumpers to Te Rapa and Kllci-slie. Gold Money Song will be included in J. J. Waller's team.
