SANSON
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A meeting was convened by Mr A. Kilpatrick of the Saoson-Ohakca returned servicemen in the Sanson Hall, tho purpose being the formation of a SansonOhakea sub-branch. Tliere was an allondancc of some 60 members, who unanimously favoured the formation of a sub-branch and tho election of officers resulted: Chairman, Mr K. C. Bailey; deputy-chair-man, Mr J. C'urrie; secretary, Mr 11. J. Jollyman; committee, Messrs C. Millar, R. Babinfiton, G. K. Bailey and llamish Wilson. Many subjects of vital interest were discussed, such as rehabilitation, finance, etc.
A lino concert was presented by ihc pupils, of the Wailoht School when, despite bad weather, tho attendance was large. Tho children who carried out their parts in the various plays (both dialogue and musical), sketches and folk dances showed considerable talent, testifying to the careful training of the teacher, Miss Z. G. Ralfe and Mrs Rowe who played tho accompaniments both on tho night of the concert and at the rehearsals. Miss Ralfo and Mrs Rowe were each presented with a shoulder spray, while the chairman thanked the head teacher, Miss Ralfe, and Mrs Rowe for their work and all those who had in any way assisted in making tho concert such a success. The costumes of the children were both colourful and effective.
The local football team has played two games, winning one and losing the other. Tho Women's Institute held a dance last Thursday evening, but because of tho inclement weather the attendance was not quite as large as usual. Despite thia, the funds havo been increased to an appreciable extent. Mr M. Meyer was M.C. These dances deserve patronage as tho proceeds arc used to purchase comforts for the boys overseas. The monthly meeting of the institute was held recently, when Mr G. Drew gave a talk on l|Tc in Fiji. Tho president (Mrs S. Adam?) presented tho speaker with tho usual gift given to returned men. The delegate (Mrs G. Richardson) gave a comprehensive report of the business conducted ab the council meeting held in Feilding. The June meeting is to bo hold in tho afternoon so that tho distant members may find it more convenient to attend to hear Mrs L'enketh, of Palmerston North, tho hospital visitor, relate some of her experiences. Members were asked to bring a small gift suitable for Mrs Pcnketh to lake to tho various patients visited by her in the course of her errands of mercy and sympathy. The hostesses for June are Mosdames McKay and Simpson. The competition will bo' a specimen bloom while Mrs G. Richardson is presenting a trophy for tho best truss of chrysanthemum. The results of the May competitions are: Specimen bloom, Mrs Coulter, Mrs Pi. Young and Mrs A. Gulbransen, equal, 1, Mrs G. Richardson 2, Mrs O'Regan 3; sock darned in hall,- Mrs G. Richardson 1. Mrs B. Young 2, Mrs Coulter 3. Mrs York and Miss Z. Cook also competed, gaining ono point each. Tho competition for tho peggy square brought in numerous 'entries, Mrs B. Young being tho winner with Mrs P. O'Regan second. Mrs A. K. Drew presented prizes for this. The squares arc to be made into a cot quilt which will then bo handed to some refugee organisation.
Mr and Mrs 11. C. Wooda-rd, of Papanui, Chrislchurch. are visiting Mr and Mrs J. C'urrie. A few nights a party of young people visited Mr and Mrs P. Gedye who halve just returned from their wedding trip. The "party spent an enjoyable evening. Mr Godye is a returned man of the present war, and very popular in this district. Mrs Nesbit, of Sanson, has received word that her son has just been released from on 6 of the German prison camps. He went away as a volunteer, being one of the first to leave this part. Mr and Mrs •E. Davey havo received notification that their youngest son has been wounded. At the time of enlisting he was employed in the office of the Public Trust at L'almerston North.
