WAGES INCREASED
DAIRY FACTORY WORKERS
WELLINGTON, May 7. A general increase of us 2d a week on the male weekly rates contained in the award made last December is provided in amendments to the New Zealand Dairv Factories Employees Award. The new male hasic weekly rate is £5 Is Bd, plus the two cost of living bonuses. The rate tor casual male general hands is 2s lOd an hour, plus bonuses. Female and youths' rates have been increased by 2s 6d to 3s Gd a week on the 1944 award rates. Pay increases are retrospective to Aprfl 1,
The 40-hour week is to be worked on the first five days on which the worker works in any week, with a maximum of 10 hours on "any day without payment of overtime For work done on award holidays a worker is to receive one day's wages at ordinary rates in addition to his ordinary weekly wage, or be allowed a day olf in lieu of the holiday. Where any work is done on a Sunday a minimum payment for four hours is provided. For all hours worked in any day id excess of 10, time and a half is to be paid for the first four hours, and double limp thereafter. For time worked in excess of the prescribed weekly hours time and a half is to be paid for the first eight hours and double time thereafter. No excess timo"is to bo calculated both on a daily and a weekly biifsis. The conditions for workers substantially employed as drivers of vehicles, other than those registered under the '1 ransjiort Licensing Act, 1936, ar« to be those prescribed in part 1 and the appropriate general provisions of the N'nw Zealand Motor and Horse Drivers' Award.
