MOTHERS' UNION
A social gathering of the All Saints Mothers' Union was attended by many members and visitors, the latter including members of the St. Peter's, Marton and Woodville Mothers' Unions, and the Palmcrston North branch or the League of Mothers. The guests were received by Mesdames Monaghan, J. Ax (enrolling member) and Metcalfe (secretary). Mrs Ax, who presided, expressed her pleasure at the large attendance and extended a welcome. Regret was felt, she said, at the proposed departure of Mrs Ashcroft, who is shortly to take up her residence in Greymouth, and good wishes were offered her. Arrangements were made for the servicing of the patriotic shop on May 14 and the A.N.A. canteen on June 10, 16, arid 1.7. A programme of entertainment, which had been arranged by Mrs W. Bigham, included numbers by the choir nf the League of Mothers, vocal solos by Mesdames Woollet, Fiebig and Bigham, and vocal duets by Mesdames Bigham and Sadd. The accompanist was Mrs Bigham. Mrs Ax conveyed thanks to the performers. The pretty floral decorations had been arranged by Mesdames K. McDowell and Carrutiiers. A Communion service conducted by Rev. H. W. Monaghan in the morning took the place of the service which usually precedes meetings of the Mothers' Union.
