LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
Mrs E. Dymock' presided at the April meeting of 'the Terrace End branch of the League of Mothers. As a token of honour and respect for the late President Boosevelt, members stood for a moment in silence. Special greetings were offered visitors from Auckland and Gisborne. The president made sympathetic reference to the anxiety suffered by two members, Mesdames L. Driver and E. Thomas, whose sons have been reported missing on air operations, expressing the hope that they would receive better news shortly. Congratulations were extended to Mrs Atkinson on the arrival of a granddaughter. A comprehensive report of the provincial quarterly meeting was presented by Mrs F. Lucas, who had deputised for the president, and a vote of thanks was accorded her. The president intimated that Mother's Day would be observed with a parade at St. Peter's Church on the evening of May 13. Sympathy was accorded members who were ill and Mrs P. Hansen, whose son was ill. The action of Mrs Silson in making floral tributes and in undertaking to make a wreath for Anzac Day was mentioned appreciatively. Mrs G. Purnell presented the happy thought. An admission service was held for Mesdames A. M. McKonzie, B. Fisher, V. Thomson and S. W. Dearlove, junr. Pleasure was given by a programme which included selections by the league choir, vocal solos by Mrs J Blaxland and Miss Lovejoy; pianoforte solos, Mrs J. Eaglesome; elocutionary items, Mrs M. Dvmock; violin solos, Mrs A. Smith. Mesdames Hay and Woodhouse provided tho acpompaniments. Rev.'- Father Hughes gave a talk on the sanctity of marriage, thanks being conveyed to him and to the performers by Mrs Whiting.
