WHALE WOOS SUBMARINE

SEATTLE, Jan. 20. Submarines arc not only deadly war weapons, hut apparently they also have sex appeal. Lieut. G. Kohrback revealed that the submarine on which he served was wooed by a whale for days. “The whale swam round and round, spouting and making a regular showoff of himself while we were surfaced,” he said. “We submerged later, and could hear the whale on our sound devices- coming nearer and making funny noises. When the whale nuzzled the submarine affectionately the crew was certain that its ship was being courted. This went on for days before the whale flipped his tail derisively and swam off in search of a more responsive object. It was a really noble experiment.”
