SAAR RIVER GROSSED
ASSAULT BY AMERICANS
ONLY LIGHT OPPOSITION 'LONDON, Feb. 22. Troops of the American Third Army have crossed the Saar River south of Saarburg and are pressing on into the Reich. The crossing was made in rubber assault boats against light opposition. Saarburg itself is now almost entirely in Allied hands. The Amereians, giving the, enemy no time to recover from the loss of most of the Saar-Moselle triangle, are driving ahead on all sectors of their 50-mile front. They are now almost
at the point where the two rivers meet, six miles from the Siegfried stronghold of Trier. To the north the Canadians have captured Moyland. The German stand before Kalkar, so fierce in the past few days, appears to be weakening and the Canadians are now within a mile of tile town.
