SUSPECTED SABOTEURS

ARRIVAL BY SUBMARINE. NEW YORK. Feb. 7. A secret trial by a military tribunal of two alleged Nazi agents who landed from a German submarine at ail islolated spot in Maine on November 29 has begun at Governor’s Island. William Colepaugh aged 26, a native American, and Erich Gimpel, German-born, are charged with entering the United States to commit espionage, sabotage and other hostile acts as agents of Germany. Both pleaded not guilty. Defendants’ counsel vainly sought to avoid a joint trial, pointing out that Colepaugh and Gimpel had each made a long statement detrimental to the other.
