PRISONER-OF-WAR CAMPS
INSPECTION BY BED CROSS.
(Press Assn) WELLINGTON. Dec. 22 The Prisoners of War Inquiry Offico has received a cabled report ol a visit by a Red Cross representative to Stalag 18A on October 28. There were approximately 1320 New Zeaianders there at the time. Red Cross parcels still constituted an indispensable supplement to the food ration. Although the arrival of food parcels was irregular because of transport difficulties there was a reserve on hand sufficient for a month. Clothing was good—9l) per cent, of the prisoners possessed two uniforms. Stalag 20A was . visited in July. Seventy New Zeaianders were there. The general impression of the camp was good. There was a library of 25,000 books and work detachments had small libraries, changing books from time to time at the main camp. The leader at Stalag 344 has cabled through tho Red Cross seasonal greetings on behalf of all New Zeaianders at the camp and gratitude to the joint council for its efforts to make life in prisoner-of-war camps more picas-1 ant.
