FEILDING
According to Mr V. E. Smith, Feilding's representative on the Palmerston North Hospital Board, the amended plans for the proposed maternity hospital in Feilding ■ have now been prepared and have been submitted to the Health Department for approval and authority to proceed with the work. Ho is hopeful that sanction will be given at an carliy date. Referring to the medical facilities in the town Mi Smith intimated that a conference was planned to be held in Feilding in February next, when members of the Hospital Board and district representatives (Crs J. H. Williamson representing the Kiwitca County Council and Bruce Mcl/eod representing the Oroua County Council) would take part in a discussion on the question of providing further assistance to the two overworked doctors here. Meanwhile, it would appear that the town's prospects of relief are nil. Mr Smith expressed himself as being appreciative of the interest being shown in the two matters affecting tho welfare of the town and for the support accorded him. At the Post Office today a very heavy inward mail of letters and packets was received, but the officials were appreciative of the fact that local residents had posted their Christinas mail early this year and that action resulted in lightening their work considerably and in a minimum of delay in handling inward mails.
