WAR AGAINST OIL TARGETS
AMERICAN MAINTAIN ASSAULT. (Rec. 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, Dec. 20. Fortresses and Liberators yesterday continued the assault against German oil installations, again attacking targets at Belhammer and in Silesia, says the Exchange Telegraph's Rome correspondent. Other heavy bombers attacked railway yards in Germany, Austria, Northern Yugoslavia and one target in the Vienna area. This means that the loth Strategic Air Force in the last four days has attacked all the important targets in its sphere of operations. The bombers yesterday attacked by instrument. Fighter-bombers in the Bologna area gave Fifth Army troops close support. Thunderbolts attacked buildings and gun positions. AH the operations were carried out despite the bad weather. - Medium forces of United States heavy bombers, with an escort, on Tuesday attacked oil refineries in Germany and railway yards in Germany, Austria, Hungary and Yugoslavia, states a Mediterranean communique, according to the Official Wireless. R.A.F. heavy and medium bombers concentrated their attacks against enemy communications and road movements in Yugoslavia. Unfavourable weather generally hampered operations bj' the Tactical Air Force. A small number of fighterbombers attacked energy-occupied buildings and gun positions in Northwestern Italy. The Balkan Air Force attacked motor transport and tank concentrations in Yugoslavia. In these operations nine of our aircraft are missing. The Allies flew about 1300 sorties.
