NO NEWS ABOUT PATIENTS

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 29 A clause in the Statutes Amendment Bill beforo tho House of Representatives makes it an offence by a hospital board employee to disclose information about the condition or treatment of any patient in any institution without the prior consent of the patient or his representative, whether the patient is still in the institution or not. TKs has given rise to the question whether the effect would be t'o prohibit the publication in Press reports of accidents of the nature of injuries sustained by those involved. However, a -sub-section of the clause provides that the Minister of Health may authorise this information to be given, and it is stated in response to inquiries made today that there is no intention that the clause should apply to the usual Press reports and that steps would be taken to make that clear to hospital authorities. •
