LOCAL BILLS

(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 29 A matter of considerable interest to local authorities was reported upon to the House of Representatives, today, by the Local Bills Committee, which bad been asked to report on the practice of the Standing Orders being suspended to allow local Bills to be considered after the time allcwed for their introduet4on—during the first six weeks of the session. The committee's report stated that war conditions had made it difficult for local bodies promoting Bills to have them introduced within 42 days from the beginning of the session, and it had become the custom for the Standing Orders to be relaxed. The committee was of the opinion that this indulgence had been abused in many instances, and recommended that all future motions for the suspension of the Standing Orders for this purpose should be investigated by the Local Bills Committee before action was taken on the motion.
