WAITRESSES PROTEST,
(Press Assn.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 29 Waitresses at the Wellington railway station refreshment rooms ceased work for an hour at noon today arid made a call on the District Manpower Officer with complaints of short-staffing at the refreshment room. Between noon and 1 o'clock all service in the diningroom at the station ceased, although the cafeteria .was. still in operation. Their complaint was that the shortage of staff was making their conditions of employment extremely difficult, and they asked the manpower official they interviewed for some relief by the provision of extra staff. They were promised that the authorities would investigate the position. An official of the refreshment room stated this afternoon that sickness and absenteeism among certain members o£ the staff were the main' cause of the shortage The girls had returned to work at ono o'clock and it. was not anticipated that there would be any further difficulty.
