JAP. RETREAT IN BURMA
(Rec. 9.15 a.m.) KANDY, Sept. 7. In the beyond the Chindwin remnants of the routed Japanese forces are collecting after their disastrous flight across the river, says the Associated Press's correspondent. Eveivno-w, with the river separating them from the 14th Army, the harrying of these broken formations still goes on, as oiw aircraft hunt out and bomb camps where they are re-forming. The Japanese who chose the river route of escape are heading south in everv available craft, travelling by night and lying up by day. An additional 150 dead have been found at Thanan, on the Hwemate escape route. A distance of 110 miles on the Tiddim Road is now cleared.
