NATIONAL PARTY

In the course of a statement regarding the chairmanship of the Palmerston North branch of the National Party Mr W. B. Tennent says: "Many people have asked me why I resigned from the chairmanship of the National Party so soon after my election. 1 was not present at the meeting at ■which I was elected, nor was my consent obtained. After I had been notified of my election I took the earliest opportunity of declining the honour. The report in your paper which read : 'Mr Tennent having resigned . . .' should have read, 'Air Tennent having declined the office of chairman . . .' The facts briefly are that I have not been chairman of the National Party."
