PRAISE FROM ENEMY
NEW ZEALAND TROOPS. (Official War Correspondent.) (12 noon) DIVISIONAL H.Q., May 20 “Whenever he Uses New Zealanders the enemy gets good results.” So reads a report on our methods of fighting submitted to tho German First Paratroop Division by its ma-chine-gun battalion which opposed the New Zealanders when, in the middle of March, they attacked and captured the Cassino station ar.oa. A copy of the report was found on a recently captured paratrooper. According to tho report, our attacks are prepared by strong, ivell-placed artillery fire which, when the attack develops, holds off the opposing artillery. Engineers are, employed mainly in the quick repair of bridges and roads.
“They are very skilful in the removal of mines and are able to clear obstacles away very quickly,” it is stated. Under all headings concerned with dealing with our methods in defence appears the remark, “No experience of them.”
