SERIOUS COAL SHORTAGE

(Rec. 1 p.m.) CANBERRA, Jan. 26. The Prime Minister (Mr Curtin) told the conference of Premiers of all States, now being held here, that unless Australian coal production showed a substantial advance the whole war effort of the Commonwealth would bo less this year than in 1943. Too much coal was being lost through stoppages. If the men and the management of the coal industry would pull together without pinpTickings one of Australia’s great basic problems would be lessened.
