WILLOWS IN RIVERS

Following a discussion on the dangei willows were causing by constricting the flow of the Manawatu River, the Manawatu-Orcua River Board yesterday deuided to authorise the engineer to engage men to ring-bark these willows, a sum of £2OO to be expended on this work. T On the suggestion of Trustee H. J. Lancaster, a letter is to be sent to the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council dealing with the willow menace and pointing out tho magnitude of this work. In' the first instance, it was a matter for the council to rid all rivers of major willow blocks, the responsibility to be then left in the hands of the respective local boards, it was seated.
