FALLING WATER LEVEL

Although a few scattered light showers fell in the city this morning about 8 o'clock, those were not enough to improve the city's fast diminishing water supply. Yesterday the level of the dam at Tiritea fell another 3£in and when the reading was takep. this morning it was 4lin below the 1 spillway. As a further step to conserve the city's water supply, "the municipal baths have been closed by the City Council. No fresh water is available cither for the several school baths in the city, and the Health Department is taking action to close them also when the water in them at present is considered unsuitable. The manner in which water can he saved was brought home to a local business man this week. An inspection of his premises revealed several leaking water taps as well as leaking water systems. They wese at once put right. The lesson was so imprinted on his mind that lie examined his household taps and to his surprise found that some of them also leakccl. They were at once repaired and this business man estimates that he is saving the city a good deal of water. Other business places and homes may be in the same position and an examination should help to further tho movement to save water in this period of dry weather.
