SELF-HEATING SOUP

BRITISH INVENTION. LONDON, Jan. 12. Rolf-heating soup. special tinned foods for jungle fighting and tinned foods that help prisoners of war in Germany have been demonstrated to 300 men and women from the food canning factories in London with the object of showing the importance of their work. A War Office analyst demonstrated the self-heating soup, which is in a tin with a fuse down the middle. He lit the fuse, and within four minutes poured out; piping-hot soup. He explained that the object was to provide a hot drink for troops fighting in cold conditions who could not light a fire. "It is a triumph of British skill; both the Germans and Americans had previously tried it," the analyst said. He added that the Americans were so impressed with sclf-hcatmg soup that they bought a million tins.
