FOXTON
Several cases of sunstroke have boon reported of late, including both children and adults. Among the victims was the Mayor (Mr M. E. Porreau). who was confined to his bed under medical attention for several days. He is now quite well again. The Foxton Patriotic Committee, at a meeting, mado arrangements for its block efforts to begin in February. New avenues for raising funds were discussed and it was decided to approach the controlling authorities to have a race day allotted to raise funds for tho 1944 effort. Acknowledgments were received from overseas from 11 men who had received unaddrcssod parcels, part of tho Foxton quota. Messrß J. Burr, D. Christie, Mesdames ' A. Calder and T East were elected to the committee. The committee expressed appreciation of the assistance rendered by the Foxton Racing Club. Mrs W. True-man reported that the following goods, were sent to the National Patriotic Fund Board for November: 12 scarves, 12 balaclavas, 4 pairs of mittens. 2 pairs of socks. For January: 11 scarves, 13 balaclavas, 20 pairs of mittens, 7 pairs of socks. On Bowe's Road, Marotiri, a collision, occurred between a car driven by Mr E- F. Parlato and containing his wife and family, who were on their way to Shannon, and a lorry belonging to Mr W. H. Gunning, of Shannon, on board which were a party of shooters. Most of the occupants of both cars escaped with a shaking,- but Mrs Parlato had her legs injured, and, the boy Gunning, who was kneeling on the tray of the lorry looking through the windows of the cab t received nasty cuts when the force of his impact with the glass broke
