JAPANESE AND ALLIED.

(9.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 12. Since Japan entered the war the Allied air forces in the South-West Pacific have destroyed 2682 enemy aircraft, probably destroyed 823, and damaged 808, said the Minister of Air (Mr Drakeford) to-night. R.A.A.F. casualties to date in all theatres of war numbered 7764, of .which 3899 had been killed, had died, or were presumed dead. More than 18,000 members of the R.A.A.F. were on active service in theatres of war outside the SouthWest Pacific, the vast majority being air crews. Since the outbreak of the war in Europe Australian airmen had won 1272 decorations and awards for gallantry, including three Victoria Crosses, 501 D.F.C.'s, and 268 D.F.M.'s.
