BLACK MARKET LIQUOR

SEIZED IN AUSTRALIA. SYDNEY. Jan. 12.

More than 1000 bottles of beer and spirits, believed to have cost £3OOO, were seized by Customs officers to-day on a ship in <an Australian port. The liquor was packed up and taken into bond. For some time the authorities have been aware of traffic in liquor between Australia and the northern battle stations. The officers believe that the whisky seized cost the buyers about £5 on the black market and that it would have been saleable in the operational areas at about £ls a bottle. Beer at the blackmarket price of £2 per dozen bottles would sell in the operational areas at £4 per dozen.
