TASMAN TERCENTENARY
(Press Assn.) HOKITIKA,' Dec. 12. The Netherlands delegation to the Tasman tercentenarjv celebrations, headed by Dr. van der Plas, arrived at Hokitika last evening, accompanied by Hon. W. E. Parry. A civic welcome was extended by the Borough and County Councils in the Soldiers' Hall, with a large gathering of townspeople. Hoiis. R. Semple, P. C. Webb, and J. O'Brien were also present. The Mayor (Mr Elcock) presided and addresses were given by Messrs O'Neil (countv chairman), Parry, and O'Brien. Dr. van der Plas replied, expressing appreciation of the warm welcome extended and his pleasure at being in the district to assist in celebrating the notable anniversary. This afternoon a formal celebration of the Tasman tercentenary is taking place at Hokitika, when a large gathering of town and country people is assured. To-morrow the delegation will travel by plane to Okarito and Wniho. This morning Dr. van dor Bias placed a wreath on the South African Memorial.
