(Rcc. 11.15 a.m.) RUGBY, Nov. 2. A further Channel action is reported bv tile Admiralty, which states that late on Sunday night a British and Allied light force operating in the Channel engaged an enemy convoy consisting of medium-sized ships, escorted by three escort vessels and one armed trawler. One of the ships in the convoy is believed to have heen torpedoed by our motortovpedohoats, and gunfire damaged the remainder of the enemy forces. Our casualti is were two ratings wounded. —Official 'Wireless. The Germans, according' to official information, have begun an intense campaign in Western Macedonia to enlist Greek workers for war work in Germany. Large posters have heen placed in many cities, inviting workers to enlist. Despite promises and threats to withdraw the workers’ food cards, only 60 have so far offored to go.—Official Wireless. (12.10) WASHINGTON, Nov. 2. President Roosevelt asked Congress for the sweeping wartime potter to suspend any law, particularly tariffs, interfering with the free movement of persons, property and information into and out of the United States. He said that the sneed and volume of war outputs had become the primary conditions of victory, therefore it tvas necessary to eliminate • peacetime restrictions limiting tho ability to make the full and quickest use of the world’s resources. Canadian business has been frozen under the wartime prices and the trade hoard order forbidding existing firms to move to larger premises, to create new outlets or to stock new lines of goods, also barring the establishment of new enterprises, The action is intended to restrict civilian business in order to divert materials, men, and money into war industries.
