WOMEN'S WORLD

. Mr and Mrs N. R. Obren, of Fitzherbcrt Avenue, will leave to-morrow for Hamilton,, where they will in future reside.

Fourteen tables were occupied at the final bridge party for the year at the Y.W.C.A. yesterday, when the rooms were gay with bowls of cherry blossom and rhododendrons. The prizes for the aggregate on the year's games were woii by Miss Flower and Mrs Piercy, and of the day's play Mesdames Poynton and Ferguson were the winners. The hostesses were Mesdames K. Dean, Pearce, 0. A. Small and Miss Forrest. The spinning circle at the United Guild continues to grow and members arc now undertaking to spin yarn to be made up for local men who are serving in the Navy or the merchant marine. The wool in its natural state gives better service for this use, as can be seen by the many letters of gratitude received from men of these services who have received garments of similar wool. Next-of-kin of men on the sea are taking advantage of this generous action. For a girl of 22 to manage a sheep station is no mean accomplishment, especially when this includes all farm duties, but Miss G. A. Johnson, of Marlborough, is carrying on in such a position while the owner is on war service. Appropriately dressed in shirt and denims, with a sheath knife in her belt. Miss Johnson includes in her tasks butchering, scrub cutting and mustering, and she can shear 115 sheep a day with blades. She was brought up on her father's farm on D'Urville Island.
