PRODUCTION COUNCIL

Members of the Manawatu Council of Primary Production last evening met Mr M. J. Scott, supervising organiser for the councils throughout New Zealand. Mr J. Linklater, chairman of the local organisation, presided, and Mr Scott gave an outline of the general work of the councils, referring in detail to matters of policy. He spoke of the numbers of farms in the Manawatu council’s area (4000) and drew attention to the liaison that existed between farmers and council through the 40 district committees in the area, each committee having an average of 100 farms in its district. The matter of manpower was refered to by Mr Scott, and he stressed the need for ensuring the availability of men for such seasonal work as harvesting. Members of the council spoke about simplification of the release of men for this work from the Army.
