IN FAVOUR OF RUSSIANS

FIGHTING AT STALINGRAD ENORMOUS GERMAN LOSSES LONDON, Sept. 27. The fighting at Stalingrad in the last 24 hours has gone in favour of the Russians. The News-Chronicle correspondent speaks again of the enormous German losses being inflicted by _ the Russian forces, who are blasting their way into buildings and then dynamiting them, the German occupants perishing in the process.

The Germans admit that Marshal Timoshenko's forces north-west of the city have- broken through their mail) defences.

The Soviet propaganda chief (M. Alexandrov) says that the Battle of Stalingrad is leading to the undermining of the Germans and the destruction of large forces, while it is giving the Russians new experience.

By holding up the enemy at Stalingrad the Russians have forced him to lose valuable time. M. Alexandrov epoke of the bonds between Britain, the United States, and Russia, which were growing more important. The German High Command had expected to seize the whole of the southern area of Russia, including the Caucasus, as well as Stalingrad, in a few weeks, and had hoped to create a great base from which to launch their future attacks. The German offensive had now lasted over 100 days, through the summer and into the autumn, and the German Command was becoming more and more cautious in view of the enemy's holdtip at Stalingrad.
