ARMY GAME
CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 27. The inter-island Army Rugby game was played at Lancaster Park in ideal conditions, and ended in a clear-cut win for South Island by 21 points to 12, but the difference of nine points more than represented the difference in (ho teams. The game was bright and open, with crisp orthodox passing. The North backs were the best seen at Lancaster Park this season. The North Island forwards excelled in loose rushes, and showed clever footwork, but in the close work, rucks and scrums, they did not pack «o v. ell as did their opponents. A splendid game was played by Passmore, a powerful forward who controlled the ball excellently, and started several .effective passing rushes. Passmore is a forward of the best class. McKenzie was a tower of strength in line-outs, and lasted the game well. but the forward most troublesome to South was Mills. Donovan, for South, created a fine impression: the best of the backs was Finlay, at centre. .
