(Rec. 1.5 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 25. The Berlin radio announced that the Luftwaffe last night bombed the militarily important locality north of Falmouth. Bombers yesterday raided Seaford (Sussex) and Dymchurch (Kent) and started large fires.
(Roc. 2.15 p.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 25. When Spitfires attacked a highflying enemy fighter formation approaching the Malta coast this morning two planes were shot down, both by one British pilot. Thursday night was quiet.—Official Wireless. NEW YORK, Sept. 25.
The Tokio official radio said that the second British-Japanese diplomatic exchange ship, the KVnalcura Manx, has arrived in Singapore with 800 Japanese- repatriates, including Tatsuo Kawai, former .Minister to Australia.
The United Press Argentine correspondent says gendarmerie have detained 70 Germans entering the Missiones Territory illegally from Brazil, carrying Nazi propaganda. The Tokio official radio announced that the Japanese naval forces are now operating in the Atlantic in close co-operation with the Axis navies. The German High Command issued a statement that the German naval forces 1/ve been co-operating with tlie Ja]»inese in the Indian Ocean since Japan’s entry into the war. The appearance of Japanese submarines lias effected co-operation in the Atlantic for the first time. NEW DELHI, Sept. 25. Four policemen were stabbed in Bombay during a demonstration which tbe police dispersed with lathis. There were a number of processions near schools and many colleges were closed. The police at Allahabad fired on a crowd throwing stones. Leading Allahabad Hindus formed a deputation to a magistrate, pointing out that collective fines penalised tlie community for the conduct' of a few hooligans. CANBERRA, Sept-. 26. The House of Representatives has lifted the ban excluding members of the Sydney Daily Telegraph and tbe Sunday Telegraph from the House of Representatives, imposed in June. Tlie article to which exception was taken “was not intended either by tbe columnist who wrote tbe article or by tbe Sunday Telegraph, which published it, to imply disparagement of parliamentary institutions,” stated a letter seeking permission for the representatives of tbe papers concerned to resume their privileges in tbe House.
Tbe establishment of a mortgage bank as a department of the Commonwealth Bank is authorised by a Bill introduced in the House of Representatives. The bank will lend only to persons engaged in primary production and its loans will not exceed 60 per cent, of the value ol the property, or £4OOO, whichever is the lesser Tbe repayment periods will range from three to 35 years The interest rates will lie fixed by tbe bank; the Government hopes, however, that the interest rate will be about 4 per cent.
