OBITUARY
Much service to the Presbyterian and Methodist Churches marked the life of Mr Albert Henry Cresswell, of Waldegrave Street, Palmerston North, who died on August 9 at the age of 81 years. Mr Cresswell's parents landed in New Zealand from the ship Mary Ann on February 12, 1842, and he was born at Stoke,, Nelson (being one of twins) on April 24, 1861. Mr Cresswell lived there until about 17 years of age, when he moved to Marlborough, where he worked with his brother in the blacksmithing business for a number of years. He went back to Nelson, where in 1883 he married Miss Annie Sigglekow, and lived in Nelson for some time., Returning to Marlborough, he took up farming, and remained there until 1911, when he moved to the North Island. He resided in Levin, Mangatainoka and Bunnythorpe, and in 1917 came to Palmerston North, where he lived in retirement until his death. Mr Cresswell was an active member and trustee of the Cuba Street Methodist Church, also a member of Orange Lodge, and was caretaker of both the church and the lodge room. He leaves a widow and ' three sons— Ernest (Eureka), Cuthbert (Hamilton) and Albert (Okoroire); also three daughters) Effie (Mrs A. Horn, Hastings), Amy (Mrs Keene, Palmerston North) and Ruby (Mrs Pedersen, Palmerston North) ; also twenty grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Mr Cresswell was superintendent of Sunday schools in various parts of New Zealand and was also an elder of the Presbyterian Church in Picton when he resided in that district.
